Recently, we have encountered someone who thinks that MADE IN CHINA Le Pliages are not the real thing.
Contrary to popular belief, not all "CHINA- MADE" stuff are fake. A lot of design houses and big brands are already manufacturing some of their products in China. We all know that labor in Western countries is expensive, so a lot of brands had tapped the Chinese community for fast and cheap production. And Longchamp is one of these brands.
Long before Longchamp became a must- have for every woman in all ages, The LCs we see are only MADE IN FRANCE. Perhaps, in order to sustain the worldwide demand, Longchamp had already licensed a production factory in China. So the Longchamps nowadays are either MADE IN FRANCE or MADE IN CHINA/TUNISIA/ROMANIA.
As long as it's authentic LongChamp, be assured that Made in France or Made in China, is of the same quality.
Most plain Le Pliage are now Made in China, Limited Editions ones (i.e Eiffel Tower, Statue of Liberty, etc) are Made in France. Regardless, they are of the same superior quality that Longchamp is known for. Some bags, like the Planetes/ Victoire are Made in China/France/Tunisia/Romania.
Currently, LongChamp are made mainly in 3 countries, being France, China and Tunisia. "Longchamp also owns other production sites. At just a step away from Segré, the Combrée factory employs 160 persons. Other units are located in the West of France: in Mayenne in Château-Gontier (120 employees) and Ernée (120 persons), the only site specialised in leather luggage; Rémalard in the Orne (40 persons) and Montournais in Vendée (80 peoples). Abroad, Longchamp has a factory in Mauritius, dedicated to the making of the small leathergoods. In Tunisia, there is a partnership with a unit which exclusively works for Longchamp. The firm has also various subcontractors in France and abroad, especially in Asia."
To further give a proper response to this question, we email Longchamp directly and here's their reply:
Dear Ms. Aly,
We thank you for your message and we appreciate that you take the time to contact us regarding your concerns about our overseas manufacturing.
Longchamp takes pride in the quality and workmanship of all its products and is committed to providing the fine quality for which we have become known. Most Longchamp products are made in France and Longchamp’s French workshops employ approximately 950 persons.
We have recently been forced to out-source some production as we were unable to keep up with the growing demand of our products. These additional worksites are all controlled by Longchamp. Please be assured that all products, whether made in France or abroad, are manufactured with the same quality of workmanship and materials.
Our quality guarantee is “made by Longchamp” and not “made in”. Proving the Longchamp integrity, we are very forthright in labeling all our products with the country of origin.
By diversifying our manufacturing base, but using the same quality standards, we have been able to maintain the price value for the products.
We hope that you will understand the need to expand our production sites and will continue to enjoy using Longchamp products for many years to come.
Please be assured that Longchamp will continue to manufacture only the finest products possible.
Best regards,
Marion
